I've noticed a lot of people on IIS put a lot of thought and emotion into their posts and was wondering if anyone does some form of writing as a hobby. Short stories, poetry or even novels? And whether they would be willing to share them here? I dabble in creative writing when I get the chance or whenever something pops into my head but I think it is hard to find amazing writer's nowaday so I would love to read anything you wonderful people have to offer! :)

Cheers,

Shelley

Shelley. I enjoy creative writing - moreso around life experience, philosophical perspectives. I have one or two that I am willing to share.

Hi Shell,

That's a very astute observation

I was a technical writer mainly, so my stuff was boring

I would like however to see this develop further.

Cheers

I understand that writing can be a very personal thing and I'm sure a lot of people will be rather hesistant about posting their work on here but I am completely open minded and enjoy reading all different styles of writing and that in turn also helps my writing to expand so if people don't mind sharing, please feel free to post some here :D

I will start the ball rolling and as Geoff has said I am keen to see how this develops further.

You appear to have a gift there Shelley. Really very good. I'm encouraged to post. Though quite a different style.

Thank you Rowland :) And as I said, I enjoy all different styles of writing. In fact, I find I learn from them as I don't like writing in the same style all the time, sometimes it's beneficial to mix things up a bit :)

Cheers!

I have gone back into my archives to 1989 and dug up the only writing I have ever done a particulary bad period in my life when I wrote these poem's

Hey Warren, this is some really powerful stuff. It flows easily and I find it sounds as if it were written down just like thoughts, even the more poetic peices. My favourites would have to be True Gifts and Fight or Flight.

Thanks so much for sharing your writing, especially since it was from during a pretty rough patch in your life. Cheers :)

Thanks Shelley,

I haven't read these for years and I had to find the website I had posted them on. Its interesting reading something you wrote a long time ago.

I've done a little fiction, but mostly I wrote or subbed for trade journals such as:
Futures & Options World
UK Baker
UK Drycleaner
Farmer's Weekly
European Plastics Weekly
&
The Journal of Non-Ferrous Metals Quarterly.
How's that for a stellar career!:D

Although I did have 2 articles published in the "Independent" (one of which Jeremy Clarkson quoted favourably!!!) and a letter in the "Green Guide" , which nobody read. :)

I agree! It's very strange reading writing that was written years ago and perhaps during a not so great part of your life. I have to say it makes me feel pretty lucky that I pulled through alright in the end and that writing things down probably had a lot to do with it :)

I've written a novel but I'm not telling you anything about it - it's been published but not in my name.
So you'll never know - lol

It's got nothing to do with space, the sky or telescopes. So no guesses please.

That is very impressive Peter! I can only hope to get something published someday. I started a novel when I was in school but I still haven't got the storyline ironed out and I don't know if I will ever write it. Would love to read some of your fiction :)
