Last night did my first attempt at moon pic. Olympus E500 at prime focus on my 6SE. my extensoin tube a bit too long for a 4/3 system so had to stitch together two pics using photoshop, plus a little enhancement. Was cloudly last night and took when moon too low for good pic. But just testing. A long way to go yet. Do most use prime focus method or projection? Will get attatchment for scope sometime and try normal lens with scope tracking.

I think most DSOs are small/big enough to fit on the chip, so most use prime focus. A x2 Barlow might help if the object is too small. that extra gubbins hanging off the focuser is not the best, plus all that extra glass to transit isn't helpful.
Most need a focal reducer to get in things like M42 and M45. I could do with a 6.3 for my LX90

Thanks Jennifer, yes, DSO's probably OK. But the moon too big. If one has a Canon or Nikon FULL FRAME DSLR the moon would almost certainly have been ok in the frame. Focal length of my scope is 1500mm so compared to a 35mm standard 50mm camera lens this is simply a 1500 telephoto, or more correclty a Long Focus lens, giving the equivalent of 30 times magnification which is half of that of my 25mm EP. If I used my 2x Barlow only a small portion would be visible. Yes, you are correct, a reducer would be good, but which is best for a Celestron 6SE?
Might try that, but I do have a longer extension tube which will give a much enlarged image. Also when off (working nights til Fri) I will try some EP projection pics.

All this for beginner is quite exciting.

Eddie, the moon is my favourite mainly because it is relatively easy to get started on but you can spend a lot of time fine tuning skills like focusing, stacking, camera setup, processing skills etc.

You've done well and look forward to seeing more.

Thanks Darrin, was looking forward to doing some more on Friday night but have been called in to work a night shift! Sat have a party to go to and Sun evening footy and working early mon. Weekend now a total wipeout! :(
