The Making Of ......

I've been keeping a close eye on one of my cactus for last couple of days. Waiting patiently for it to come into flower. Well, tonight is the night. :D
It started showing signs this afternoon, the bud started to swell and bulge and the rear petals started to lift.
So.... I set my tripod, camera and 90mm macro lens and have set the timer.
I'm currently taking an image every 5 minutes.
The end result will be a time lapse animation of the flower opening.
I'd like to share some happy snaps I've taken during the last couple of hours.
The current diameter of the flower is 5", I'm hoping that it will get up to 6".
It's been a fun project!
Hope to astound you all tomorrow with the completed animation.

Oh...and I get to do it all again in a couple more days when the other bud is ready. :D

Well sort of.
Can you imagine a full moon reflecting off the white of the flower? It would positively glow, attracting all sort of flying insects who will pollinate it.
Plants are a lot smarter than we give them credit for.

Very Nice!!! Had a cactus the same a few years ago!!!

I'm thinking about doing the same with a rose bush I have.... but dont want to leave the camera outside!!!!!
