Hi guys,

My brother is into geocaching where you use a GPS to locate markers (a bit of high tech hide and seek). There are hundreds of them across Australia and the world. Some give the location by puzzles or clues. Here's an astronomical one he drew my attention to. Here's the reference:

http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=f96aa48d-e280-4928-8d8f-9f25c27c0a2b

This one has the latitude and longitude hidden in the Messier No for these objects. I've worked out enough to confirm it is in a reserve not far from where the ASNSW meets and the AAO HO at Epping.

In case you wish to try the whole puzzle, I won't disclose what I have figured out so far except that the top line is the latitude and I'm struggling with the last 2 images. The bottom line, the longitude, I'm having trouble with the last image.

I'd like to give him the answer, any help?

Thanks

Glenn

I am hoping all this is correct....

Bottom last image Looks like M4. Love Geocaching!

Second last on first line is M3 and Last one on the first line is M28

Can I log the cache too :D

Hi Astroman,

Well done, that's right. It's a shame you're in SA, I'd image not many of your average geocachers would have a chance of getting this one.

If anyone else would like to have a go I'd be happy to check your answer.
