Last week I bought a Canon 500 D. First SLR I've owned since my Olympus OM-1 bought in 1982. I am very excited - things have certainly changed! Here are some of my efforts with it so far. These are all taken on our bush property. I don't know the species of dragonfly, the landing bird is a Buff-rumped Thornbill about to interrupt a Scarlet Robin's bath.
The female Golden Orb Weaver in the 3rd photo has just molted and whilst still helpless, the male has mated with her. Many other males were trying the same act but he was much larger and drove them off. As soon as her skin hardened and she could move, he was off!
Thanks for looking.

Thanks everyone.
It might find its way onto my ED 80 occasionally. I think I'll leave the serious stuff to those with deeper skills and pockets.
Oh dear. I'm glad that's in past tense.
Thanks Bart, stroke of luck.

I was just having a look at what I'd need to put it on the blocking filter which is a 1 1/4 " male thread. I think though an SLR is not ideal - a mono camera would be better. Then I'd have to get a lap top to collect the data. So it might be a while yet.

Nice shots Paddy. Congrats on the new camera. I am a little jealous. I have been hunting dragonflies all summer, couldn't get one!
