Hi all,
Ok not anywhere as good as I have seen. But I'm posting these so I can get comments especially about processing.

These two images are my first through my set up C8 scope see pic. They where taken with a DBK 31 colour at prime focus. Scope is F10 FL 2000 but I suspect its a little higher.

yes I know all about affects on seeing and a not cooled SCT
and both where bad. the seeing was terrible. But I wanted to try as I have never used the camera etc etc.

I only captured about 30 seconds of AVi's I used registax 5.1 for the first time and processed what you see.
yes there blurry etc But there was not a sharp image in the AVi's.

So i learned,
One thing that is really important is focusing as you all know. I have the 10-1 focuser thank god but its still not good enough. Will have to look at some sort of motor focus.

Also seeing and cooled down telescope. Your spot on John

Cheers.
Dave.

Hi Dave,

It's a really good start, I noticed that you mentioned Afocal capture. This usually introduces lens chromatic aberration which can also make the picture look out of focus.

consider trying prime focus capture as you are not introducing any lens between the camera and errors of the scope.
To check if you have lens aberration get onto the programme either gimp or Photoshop and separate the red green and blue colours. If you find one of the colours is in focus and the other two are out of focus that would mean you are experiencing chromatic aberration.

Otherwise keep out of and like most people you will get there.

on the above yes you are correct it makes quite a big difference to get the focus right. In a lot of my later images I implemented a motorised focus and it worked brilliantly.

Thanks Malcolm,
I made a mistake and have fixed my error. The images where at prime focus, the DBK was put into the focuser without any Barlow etc.

I'd say it looks like this will be a great combination of scope and camera. The underlying level of detail looks good despite the focus. Colour and overall shading look good. Maybe slightly saturated on the hilights on Copernicus.

Look forward to more.

Hi Dave
These are pretty good - as mentioned focus is the key / seeing too!
Take heaps of AVI's - I try for over 2000 images and keep 80-100 in Registax.
You will produce great pics with this set up - looks super!
I use an LX90 (8") and DMK31 mainly at prime focus - I like the field of view you get!
Congratulations on the first up effort!

Great stuff Dave. Lots of good advice above that I won't repeat.
I would add that practice does indeed help to tune your skills

Everything looks to be pretty close Dave. Exposure/gain etc. Maybe up a tad in exposure to stop the highlight burnouts. It's just the seeing that stuffed things up. It's very hard for focus to come to an agreement with nasty seeing.
