Hi all i have been into astronomy for a number of years but to night is the first time i have every tryed astrophotography i took a few shots of the moon a few shots of Saturn. seeing its the first time doing this i was very happy with the outcome.

I used a Canon EOS550D and a saxson 5" DOB (no filters)

If anyone can recommend what filters i should get that would be great the main type of pics i would like to do are planets and DSO.

thanks heaps

Great stuff Robert - that's pretty exciting. You got Saturn's rings and the colour nicely. Both exposures were well done. If you want any tips using the 550D with a Dob let me know :)

Hi Robert - that is a super Moon shot - really crisp!
That will be a great set up for a Lunar Eclipse - one will happen in December and I think we get the whole thing!

Good shots Robert. The Moon is great, and Saturn is darned good for a 5"
Some increase in power would help with Saturn (conditions permitting) although the degree of difficulty increases as the scale increases.

Well done Robert, I'm also starting out but can't get saturn like you did at all yet. Must experiment with exposure time and ISO, last attemp it was far too bright with no detail. Working nights now til Friday, so if clear will try again. If I can get what you have I'll be happy. It sure is a thrill to see an astro pic taken by yourself after looking at so many and wondering if you could ever ever do something similar.
