Well well 132 today. He shares a birthday with Johan Strauss (1804), Giovanni V Schiaparelli (Italian astronomer b 1835) and Casey Jones (1864).

And significant world events on this day:

1900 - In Holland, Botanist Hugo de Vries rediscovered Mendel's laws of heredity. (How did he do that on one day?? It must have been the day he announced it.)

1938 - Germany invaded Austria. A union of Austria and Germany was proclaimed by Adolf Hitler. (That ended in tears.)

2011 - JJJ posted her first thread since leaving hospital. (This was greeted with cheers and applause around the globe.) :thumbsup:
