Here's the first image from the new monster, a 13" f/5.5 newtonian, of Jupiter from Lostock scout camp.

The imaging conditions were about average, say 6/10, and I am sure that the collimation was not quite right, but overall i'm happy with this image.

Taken at 5.29am on Sunday morning. Camera was a PGR Dragonfly Express, captured at around 30fps and grabbed 40 seconds of each colour.

Hi Bird, haven't heard from you for a while and what an entrance! :) You've got to be happy with this. The banding detail is truly amazing as is the colour. I'm looking forward to your first >8/10 seeing post with the new setup - -how does it go mechanically, no probs?

Looks great Anthony, great image scale! Glad you got some data out of the weekend. It's a shame the fog interrupted the GRS transit on Saturday morning.

Can't wait to see what you produce in good conditions. That scope of yours is a monster, a truly impressive piece of equipment.

Hi guys, thanks for the comments. mechanically the scope was about 8/10, there are a few things I need to change, but overall it was ok considering I had no time to fine tune anything beforehand (I finished constructing it on the night before I left :-))

I'm happy with this image as a starting point, but I'll be working to improve over the next few weeks.

My hat of to you Bird the scope looks great the jupiter shot turned out well!
Did you have to get the tools out to do some mods to it?

Doesn't look like the trip north is going to happen this year, there's too many other things happening in march/april, but maybe May is a possibility, too soon to tell.

The snake valley trip will likely be the last one for me for a while.

Nice stuff Anthony....I must say the visual I had of Saturn through your Scope on the last night was absolutely brilliant.

Visually saturn through your scope was awesome! Its a shame the conditions degraded not long afterwards (poor Marcus trying to get the blue filter movie done and had to give up).

drool.... drool... ah now why did you have to go and do that.. I only just looked at jjjnettie work, and am geting crazy ideas about waking up at ungodly hours of the morning. And you and your big pretty pictures are tempting me some more.. Love the detail, love the image scale.. what can i say its awesome.. I expect perhaps an appearance in AS&T to S&S next month for you is due. A big scope a G11 mount, what more does a man need...

Nice work Anthony...splendid image. I'm visualising the light glow from the monitor as you took the frames while possibly annoying the DSO dark adapted observers surrounding you on the night.

You're doing some great work mate!

Yeah Marcus & I certainly did our share of light beaming around the place despite our best efforts. That's fixed now, I've changed most of the colours on the laptop over to shades of red and dimmed the display. Pity I didn't do this before :-(

I'm getting pretty tired of this cloud & stuff that's hanging around at the moment, but at least I'm getting to work through all the changes to the scope.

The red cellophane that Tony was using seemed to work well, I dont think it would work well for trying to focus properly for planetry work though.

It was more the angle of the laptop screens that was the problem where Bird and Marcus were setup I think. There was noone behind them at all (other than John to the west [I think it was, though my bearings were stuffed :P]). Most of the imagers were in one location (hi Houghy).
