At roughly 13 days lunation, I observed the moon and allowed patrons at a local restaurant observe the terminator as I accidentally discovered the crater Grimaldi and its general region to be showing a 'blue-grey-box-shaped light' in the darkness with a black arrow shadow imbedded into its center a day after Valentines where the light rolled off at the terminator. I decided to make quick notes and a rough sketch with my fountain pen onto an envelope. I also took several photographs by mounting my new Sony Alpha NEX3 digital camera over a 9.7mm plossl eyepiece on my Celestron Nexstar 5i telescope producing 150X magnification.

I returned home to start the sketch onto a 22" X 30" sheet of black Stonehenge 100% cotton pastel paper. I rendered the Grimaldi Crater region at center, then the whole moon at top as observed at lower magnification through the telescope, with finally making an artists conception of standing at the surface of Grimaldi basin looking into that blue box of light and the dark arrow shadow pointing the way.

Mark, about what times UT were your observations? I'm curious how it might appear in LTVT,

Cheers,
Tom
