Card Fraud

I have never been a victim of this until now. The card that has been illegally debited was only used in one place to buy over the internet and I would consider the Golden Casket online agency secure, so its got me beat. Anyway these thieves take 39.17 from your account at monthly intervals and it goes to Lafincs.com. How original. I have lost 2 lots of this and the banks say they cant stop it !!!

In my experience these are not always people stealing info from your online activities they can be but a lot of these events are through throwing out your correspondance in your rubbish people go through your trash and can find everything they need to steal your identity. I have been using my credit card online for years with no problems it is just a case of keeping an eye on addresses online and making sure there are no odd characters in the address and keeping on top of virus and malware by running regular scans not answering or opening Emails that you don't know who it is. Banks will not send you emails period so anything supposedly from your bank isn't. I know my IP will not send emails requesting my logon details so if I get anything like that I ignore it completely and delete it. I have found PayPal to be extremly reliable as they are the only ones to see your details and I wish that more online transactions could be through them the only dealer I have provided my CC details to is Dell as they don't use Paypal:screwy:. In summary keep your rubbish free of identifing material and keep your computer clean and you shouldn't have anything to worry about. I sell and purchase using paypal and despite the current threads about paypal problems I have yet to have any problems and I believe that that is because of the care I take with all printed material and keeping my computer clean you can think that you are not infected because nothing strange is happening to the computer the software to steal your identity is trying to stay out of the spotlight so doesn't make strange things happen to avoid detection.

I agree, Warren, especially with your Paypal comments. And for those who want to take online security to an even higher level, there's a Paypal Security Key (https://www.paypal.com/au/securitykey) available, that generates a unique six digit number for each logon - even if your password was cracked, the thief would also need your individual key unit to get into your account.

Must tell us which bank say they can't do a thing !!!
Obviously you have to change your bank (hope it's not Commbank)

Banks can reverse fraudulent transactions on your cards. I've had it happen to me twice in the last 12 months and both times the bank reversed the transactions, I'd go higher if I was you.

Always run a non carded savings a/c and keep the bulk of your funds in that then transfer money to the other card a/c's as needed

Always check your bank a/c's daily and if something doesn't look right report it straight away

It is a merchant banking rule that if the CCV number of the CC was used to complete the transaction then it is considered legit and the bank thus would not reverse the transaction - normally I'd advise my clients to immediately cut up the card and return the little pieces to the bank and tell them to bugger off!!
