Can anyone in Brisbane with some welding gear come over here to Carindale and tack some 65mm flat bar together for me. Please PM me if you can. I haven't used that sort of gear since tech school in the 70's and would probably stuff it up if I hired/borrowed the gear..

I just need to tack this gap together ... Actually that is an old photo, they are far closer vertically now but I need to stop them from flexing apart at the bottom.

Make sure you have a bucket with a very wet rag in it for when the wood behind it catches fire, cos it will. Hot slag will spit everywhere so make sure you put something down on the floor and cover or remove all your instruments and especially your optical glass! The fumes alone from welding in an enclosed space can add extra coatings on your objectives!

Not a problem Barry. The obs is empty and unused. Just an empty pier sitting in there. But one tack with a tourch and it will be alive.
