Anyone got any good online info that goes into detail about star types?
Being an amateur, I am not looking for something too in-depth.
I would really like a printable guide that I could reference away from the computer.
A book would also be great but I would prefer the cheap online version ;)

Probably not what you're looking for but a good resource nonetheless is James B. Kaler's webpages on Stars (http://stars.astro.illinois.edu/sow/sowlist.html). He talks about each of the brightest stars in the sky and the physics going on with them. Very good if you're wondering about a particular star.

Thank you. It will help and looks like it has some interesting info.
After something a bit more fundamental and basic though.

Hi Helman,

Can you please explain a bit more, exactly what kind of information you're after?
I'm studying about stars at the moment and the information about them is quite extensive and indepth. Are you after say, a list and names of just the brightest stars?
I wish I could have a list of just the brightest stars with associated astrophysics but as yet have not been able to find one, so I have to google each one. Perhaps that's what you're after?
I have a great reference book "Atlas of the Stars" by Cambridge Press. It's very indepth though, but is a fantastic reference book.

Jacquie that link has got so much helpful information, it's fabulous- thankyou!

I am after the basic info on star types. I know our sun is a class G star, but I really don't know what that means.
I use a sky safari on my IPhone and it has alot of data about stars in it but I am after more info to decipher what it all means.
Star classification is a little bit odd to me :confused2:
So, a basic guide to stars is what I think I need. An online version I could print would be even better.
Or should I just go and buy a 'idiots guide to astronomy' style book?

Hi Helmann in this site posted by Jacquie,
http://stars.astro.illinois.edu/sow/sowlist.html
Go down to the heading "Hertzsprung Russel Diagram"
The Stars will be explained to you along with the above Diagrams
Cheers

Yes that will help you plenty, I was going to post that here but Ron beat me to it. Here is a wikki link which explains it really well also.

Awesome. This is what I am after.
Thank you all.
Now I just need to format it so I can print it out.

Thank you all again.

Brett.
