Hi

I keep hearing stories about the moon currently being close to earth, some say that all the wild weather is being caused by it..
The latest one is the 19th of March, apparently it's meant to be the closest.

The stories go on to say this is a cycle - much like sun spots.

Without doing any real research I would like to know if this is true..
If so why is it not listed on this site?

Just asking.

Against popular belief the moon does not have a circular orbit.
The closest Moon (Perigee) for this year is March 19th

I guess if you are one of those people who subscribe to the theory that the moon once was part of the earth, and that it was blown into space as hot molten stuff after earth collided with a celestial body, and then solidified to form our moon.......For sure the moon has been closer (once upon a time), even if it was a molten blob.

If you download Microsoft's Worldwide telescope program and fast forward it should tell you the moon's distance from the earth on the 19th, comparing that data and cycling back through the ages is another story! gonna need mucho coffee for that excercise heh heh heh.:P
