SynScan (Skyscan) questions

For folks using this Go-To set-up, which stars do you use for either your 2-star or 3-star alignment and why?

I've read it's best to go for stars which aren't near the meridian?

And which method to do you find produces the most accurate alignment: 2 or 3 star?

Thoughts? Recommendations?

OK I don't have skyscan.

But for Argonavis and Autostar I use Canopus and Betelgeuse at the mo because they are so obvious. In reality they are a tad close in RA, but I've been getting good results. The ideal is about 60 degrees sepatation in both axes and not too near the pole, so Canopus - Regulus may be the optimum at this time of year.

I like to use a star that is bright in the East and one in the West. This will give a pretty good alignment. The wider the alignment the better the mount will point.

So you only use 2-star Paul?

Do you find that more accurate than 3?

:)G'day Matt, i use 3 stars to get aligned.

They are: 1] Achernar
2] Alderbaran
3] Becrux, Mimosa

At certain times while aligning, this selection is not an option, maybe to do with time/date.

I can get these most time though, and it gives me decent alignment, depending on how close to polar alignment i was.

I only used 2 star and found this to be good. I do use an illuminated reticle and this will increase your accuracy. I must try the 3 star alignment and compare.

I only use 1 or 2 stars on the same side of the meridian....99% east side....mainly because of mirror flop on a SCT.
