Hi all,

I haven't posted anything for a while, something to do with no clear skies but there has been a chance over the last week to get snapping.

I have collected almost 7 hours worth of data on this stunning neb. I feel pretty happy wiht the data - now for some serious processing. This is my first attempt, wasn't very patient and just went with what looked good (I think?). The camera is an unmodded Canon 1000D and the temp was pretty high at around 30 deg C last night.

Any comments would be most welcome, I think I might have pushed it a bit too far and I haven't done anything to the stars or background yet.

Hi Adam,
It looks very promising. I find this initial processing a bit too harsh. Back off on the curves a wee bit. Less is always more.
What ISO were you shooting at?

Hi jjj,

ISO 800. I have only just stacked the images, pushing the curves and I felt a rush of adrenaline. Now that I have had another look it is a bit much. I'll sit down and have another go later tonight.

:) They're all works in progress, until the next lot of data is ready to work on.

Plenty of detail there and I like the framing - very nice! Yep, just ease off a bit on the stretching and Bob's your proverbial uncle.

A very good image.

I would suggest a few tweaks. I played with it in PS and these worked well.

Run HLVG (from Rogelio Andre0's site :

http://blog.deepskycolors.com/archivo/2010/04/26/hasta-La-Vista-Green.html

Its a free Photoshop plugin and gets rid of green noise which you have in the background).

Run some curves boosting the red channel only. Perhaps a small amount of the blue channel but no green.

Came up more fully. It isn't overstretched yet and there is a bit more in it but you need to do each colour individually rather than all rgb.

Star colours could be enhanced even more if you can.

Greg.

Thank you for the comments, I'm going to start from scratch and try it slowly (and properly). Definately keep a lid on the greens.

Adam,

You've done exceptionally well on this difficult and very unforgiving subject.

I haven't been game enough to try it yet.

Look forward to your reprocess.
