After the last IISAC Phil Hart generated a lot of interest in time lapses and there was some discussion about where to get non-copyright music to put with the video clips. I wondered how successful making you own music with software such as Fruityloops might be. The appeal of making your own music, apart from the satisfaction of DIY:), would be you could add effects to coincide with events in the clip like satellite passes (just like any B sgrade sci-fi film:P).
Fruityloops has a wide range of instruments and some sound effects built into it. I'm using a pretty old version that I've had for years, but over the weekend I had a play with a piece of music that I wrote for guitar many years ago - a finger picked progression of basically add2 chords which always struck me as having a spacey or dream-like feel about it. We used it as backing to jamm and improvise. It's called "Nothing" and the original goes for 3:16, but as that's a long time for a time lapse, I also made "Half Nothing" by cutting out the second "verse" so Half Nothing goes for 2;00 exactly.
Feel free to have a listen, if you like it and want to use it in a time lapse or video clip, as an IIS member feel free - just acknowledge credit for the music to me please:).
Both Nothing and Half Nothing are in the following zip file:

I have also just recently discovered Musescore for music composition, so for those guitarists out there who might like to try it I've attached the score.
Enjoy.

There is quite a lot of royalty free music out there, google is your friend. I use Audacity (free) to edit and capture sound clips. Cut, copy, paste, format conversion all in one easy package.

Thanks guys.
I know there's plenty of royalty free stuff around, but it's just not the same as stuff you've written and recorded yourself (usually it's better!:P:lol:). The main purpose was to show its not real hard to do your own music if you want to. I confess it was easier than I expected. Of course the more musical knowledge you have the easier it is too, but you don't need to be Dave Gilmour or Joe Satriani to make something that suits your clip exactly how you want it.:)
I'm not sure what Fruityloops sells for these days, but it used to be quite reasonably priced. I don't know if there's a freeware/open licence equivalent though:shrug:.

Its not hard, Dave.;)
I suggest this fingering:
A add 2 = x07600
D add 2,4 = x54030
C add 2 = x32030
E = 022100 (of course)

Interesting. I'll have a look into that.
:thanx:
I had a listen to some of yours as well. Very good!
Thanks Mike. Nothing beats live music. The computer generated stuff does lose something... not quite biological:P but it become relatively sterile. I have a piece of music we used to jamm to that's in 3 parts that seque together, but so far its beyond me to get that to work in FLStudio:rolleyes:. Maybe one day I'll work out how to do it and make it sound OK/good.:)
It's a good learnign exercise for me in FL Studio though, because I take a piece of music I know and play and then have to add basslines or melodies, and drums, etc to it. Good fun.

Damn, I guess I should consider firing our gear up and become musically creative for a change :eyepop:

Al, do you mind if i can use one of your tunes for my timelapse?

I suppose any piece by Philip Glass would be suitable (doesn't matter which one, they're all the same ;) ), but they're probably not free to use. After the Men At Work debacle most people won't even dare to resample existing music…
Cheers

Sorry, Dave, I haven't written "The Lunt B1200 Blocking Filter Blues" yet...:poke:
Feel free to use for any non-profit purpose providing credit for the music goes to me.:D (That applies to anyone;)).
