is it possible to see a solar flare in a telescope? if so what telescope?

Hi Mark - yes you can but never look at the Sun directly - you need equipment!
You can absolutely see flares and prominences and ejections - a Hydrogen Alpha scope will do the job - a specialised filter that let's light at the red end of the spectrum into the eye piece.
It allows you to see the upper atmosphere of the Sun - the Chromosphere where all these good things are visible.
