cool
interesting though that with a 15 min shot there are no stars (due to the full Moon no doubt) and we can still see ripples in the water!
Something must have disturbed the water at the last minute?

Frank,

Ah, yes, but, there are star trails in the sky. Another reason why presenting images for screen display sucks! Particularly if you don't wish to show large resolution images.

I used a 1-stop grad filter elastic banded to the lens (I don't own or use filter holding systems) to keep the sky from dominating the scene -- I wanted to maintain details in the clouds and to add some contrast. The intent was for the eye to dart about the spinifex-y shrubs, to the river, to the snow and to the clouds and back again. : )

Also, as for the ripple, that's just the way the water was flowing; there must have been some rocks or boulders or something which caused the epetaing pattern.

P.S. I hate focusing in the dark! Trial and error, grr!

awesome h . i like the soft spiky bushes and the calm river they mix very well. i think crop a little of the top because my eyes where drawn to empty space above the clouds

Those clouds in the sky looks like the spiky grass. There is something in the air.

Bart,

Glad you enjoyed the image and that the intent worked (even if it was reversed!).

Shane,

Ta. I'm quite glad that it was a still night that allowed me to capture the foliage crisply. I hear what you're saying, re: cropping off the top. However, there's star trails there. ;)

Marc,

Didn't notice that, nice one. :)

Frank,

It was pretty spooky out there, actually. Not a soul in sight. The only thing out there were wild brumbies. Beautiful creatures.

Ric,

Thanks, mate!
