View Full Version here: : Prof. Brian Cox and the End of The World - Explained.
I just came across this youtube clip of Brian Cox explaining why the Mayan calender ends in 2012

Bit worried about his driving habits though while he explains, hands on the wheel and looking at the road more, would be nice.:driving::face:

I think I saw him wearing the same t-shirt in every other series I've seen him in !
Hope he owns a washing machine
:P:)
People can believe whatever they like, as far as I'm concerned.
Belief doesn't really have anything to do with Science … unless you make it so.

So that's who the woman are raving on about:shrug:;)
He makes sense in what he is saying.
When other peoples beliefs are used to rule the lives of others
that's what I don't like :mad2:

I agree with you there Ron.
In the case you cite, perhaps it is the people, (who also have beliefs), that impose their wills on others. The beliefs are probably just an excuse for them to justify their true intentions to themselves, however.

I think I'm in love...
I really don't think this has to do with belief at all, it's superstition. How many people that really believe the world will end in 2012 have a firm grasp on the knowledge and wisdom of the Mayan civilisations? It's all heresay and "things just add up". And most of them really have no idea what they're talking about.
I know, right?! :wink2:. If I was to be perfectly honest, at the time of looking thru his YouTube videos, I wasn't looking to get educated.
There is a thread running at the moment in Astro. Books & Media http://http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=72304 (http://http//www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=72304) discussing his new show currently airing (Wonders of the Universe) and "all things" Brian Cox. Boys are a bit jealous of him. Gosh, can they get catty...
You make a good point there Shelley. http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/../vbiis/images/smilies/winking70.gif

I'll be intrigued to see just how much knowledge is acquired as a result of all these 'viewings' of Youtubes ... and by watching the forthcoming documentary!
Look forward to your precis of "Wonders of the Universe", Suzy, Shelley, Liz, Ron (astroron)

Interestingly in this video presentation (http://fora.tv/2010/04/24/David_Morrison_Surviving_2012_and_O ther_Cosmic_Disasters) about 2012 Apocalypses, (at the 12:10 mark), David Morrison, (NASA Senior Scientist in Astrobiology, Saganist, etc), points out that Michio Kaku is also guilty of exacerbating the nonsense about 2012. (Kaku's own words are at the 13:40 mark).
Kaku reckons we'll get hit with a Solar Catastrophe 'around' 2012, where all satellites, internet, etc, will be totally wiped out. His excuse for it not having happened before, is that 11 years ago, we didn't have enough satellites to notice it !
Just goes to show you that these 'glossy' so called 'Physicists', in the public eye, are just as full of it, as the average conspiracist.
Shame on Kaku ! (I suppose, at least his hair is well groomed :) ).
Is Cox in this bucket, or is Kaku out there on his own ?
(The hair thing excepted, of course :P :) )
Cheers
Have your a similair one now Craig? I know Carl has. :D
Great cartoon jjj!!!
Yes, next year will be interesting to say the least. From memory, the 'event' happens in December, so at least we get the solar eclipse over.

I'm not sure I can answer that question, Liz.
(… on account of not fully understanding the breadth of its intent :confused2: :) )
Anyway .. whatever Carl possesses .. may not have the same 'qualities' as that which I possess … (yes, I'm afraid there is some doubt sneaking in there) .. :confused2: :P :)
Cheers
