My New Scope!

Hi everyone:hi:,

I'd just like to show everyone my new Scope,My previous scope was a 130mm eq2 and after a while I grabbed aperture fever and now I own a Gso 12'' dobsonian.I have yet to try it and am keenly awaiting nightfall for maybe a gap in the thick cloud.It is Big with me being as tall as it:D.

I'll probably have a first light report in the observing forum incase you want to check it out if it is clear here.I can't wait.

I made the exact same path 130mm EQ2 to a 12" GSO dob and the difference is enormous, when you get your first look at M42 or Eta Car it will blow you away.

So looking forward to reading your obs reports.

I tried to see something yesterday but all I saw was Sirius the dog star and then it clouded up completely.I can't wait to have a proper observing session with it.

I can't wait for your obs reports and I agree with everything that everyone has said on here. I have no doubt in my mind that you will go on to great things and stand head to head with some of the great observers around, in time to come. I know it, we all know it. You are very deserving of such a fine telescope and such an inspiration to many of us.

So is this an early birthday present or have I missed your birthday? I know you had your heart set on a dob but am curious - did your parents surprise you with a scope that size? How do you plan to move it around- wheels or trolley? Do you plan on keeping your old scope? So many questions I know :question::lol:

If you want to get up close and personal with your oversized beer barrel, you might consider giving it some "war bird paint scheme", like I did to my old 17.5" tube... :lol:

I tried again yeaterday for a gap that lasted 10 minutes.I saw a couple of stars and by the look of the concentric circles my collimation is way out of wack.I think I have to collimate the laser collimater that came with the scope,but I don't have an allen key small enough for the screw.

I hope to have my collimation fixed and under a nice clear night soon.

lol same lucky here mate i got my 16'' Dob today and its cloudy as and has been for the last week,guess first light will have to wait :(
get the laser out mate and collimation it so ya can get out there and use your new scope as soon as its a clear night.
