Hi everyone,

I am just wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of some websites that have extensive information on the Otway National Park along the Great Ocean Road, Melbourne. I have searched up and down trying to find information on walking tracks but can only find about 5 listed tracked for the whole of Otway's, two of which don't specify length. Are these the only walking tracks available or are there more?

We ended up finding some maps of each section of Otway's with the waterfalls and creeks etc. marked out on them and some of them circuits but no walking track maps specifically or any info about the walking circuits specified on the maps. Are the many listed waterfalls just so easily accessible and close that they have no need for listing tracks or am I missing something?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Shell

Hi Shell,

There is a definite shortage on the Net. We were able to get some maps from the NRMA (or RACQ there), but much better info is available locally at the Visitor Info Centres. There is a big well stocked one in Lorne.

You really need this map

http://www.parkweb.vic.gov.au/resources05/05_1787.htm

which they want to sell you :)

You can make some headway with this site

http://www.otwaywalks.com/front.html

and by using Google Maps close up. A good trick there is to select the Terrain option, which does a better job of showing you grades.

The waterfalls are all close by and accessible, and, well-signposted.

Hopetoun and Beauchamp, especially, are stunners.

Hi Shelly i just recently done that trip is was great but hope you have good walking shoes as there is a lot of walking to be done ;)
Just pop into any of the information centres along the great Ocean Road they have heaps and heaps of pamphlets in there for every part of the Ottways, 12 Apostles etc  enjoy your trip :)

Thank you Geoff for the information and H on the tips for some stunning photo opportunities!! Muchly appreciated and I apologise for getting back to this thread so so late.

And Jen, I will have my good joggers with me ready for lots of walking :D I usually wear my Docs so I don't break my ankle when doing bushwalking but they are so uncomfortable and I now have permanent lumps on my heels from blisters from walking 43km in three days at Binna Burra in them. So, never again! I will just have to try and be careful and not break anything :P And thanks, I will grab some pamphlets along the way, I cannot wait!

Only 4 more sleeps!! :D

Oh and Shelley, if you come through Colac and stop at the visitor info centre, pop into the red building next to the carpark (Hip Pocket Workwear) and say hi (that's where I work).
Always nice to meet IISers!

Hey Malcolm,

We will be sticking along the coastline for the trip except once we get to Otways. My partner and I are both very keen seascape photographers so we won't be heading anywhere inland sorry!

Would have been great to meet you!

Cheers
