Haven't posted in quite a while but I had been working on this shot and getting as many 5 minute subs as I could. In the end I stacked 51 subs with DSS and then processed in Photoshop. Guided with PhDGuiding (what else?) and photographed with OSC QHY8 camera.
On close examination of a negative image its amazing how many small faint fuzzies there are in this shot.
Any comments are welcomed.

Very good Rastas.

Guiding is spot on as your stars are nice and round.

I notice a bit of noise in the background darkness of the sky that surprises me a bit with 51 subs.

What settings do you use for DSS?

Very nice Rastas,

Interesting subject, might have to look this one up, pretty and very nice structure to the arms...

Maybe the noise is from the JPEG compression artifacts Frank? It is only 124kb posted here.

As Chris said its jpeg artifacts that have caused the lumpy background.

Hi Rastas
What is the official catalogue number of this object?

You picked up a lot of detail there. Nice one. This is NGC1566.

A bit more colour processing would enhance this one. Like most galaxies it should be more of a shade of blue.

Greg.

ok,
if its the JPEG compression only causing the blotchiness then that's good news because photoshop does enable to "save as jpeg" and within that an option to set the file size (say 188kb) so the piccy can be be saved at the highest resolution possible within the allowed sized for IIS.
cheers:thumbsup:
