The Dark Side

For the last two days, I have been building my own DIY portrait studio in my workshop out back and thought I would experiment with some lighting.

For this self-portrait, I used no flash this time, but a 75watt bulb in a flat white lamp reflector, high left.

I am calling this one, "The Dark Side".

Pull it to pieces with C&C if you like, it's the only way I will improve.

Very dark and sinister Baz but I think it's a great image.

You have used the light and shadow to great effect in my opinion.

Yo thanks dudes! Practicing more in the studio tonight! This is HEAPS fun and a very good way to learn. Experimenting HANDS ON! Much better than theory.

OK, not entirely happy with my first attempt at this DIY studio lighting, rather than process it again, I shot it again, keeping in mind a lot of different opinions of advice I have received in the last day.

I applied a couple of little "extra" tricks for a very similar picture, but changed somewhat from the original. I tried a portrait crop as well as the original landscape presentation.

So here you go. Derek Zoolander gave you "Blue Steel" and, "Magnum"....

Without further ado, I give you, "FULL METAL JACKET!" :cool:

LOL! Gee thanks Ric.

I think now that I have moved my DIY studio from the workshop to the den, now I might combine the two. Light but grungy background from the first go, with the better-angled light from the second go. I might lose the colour in the eye and tone it down just a fraction and see how that looks.
