I have been trying out some things in PS5 and found the new content aware delete function to be useful at removing stars. Below are two images I have tried it out on. The first is some Ha data of M42. I cleaned this image up a bit with the dust and scratches function after deleting the stars. The second is of M31 on which I only deleted the stars and did not use the dust and scratches function. The benefit of this is that detail is preserved.

Interesting effect - how do you use content aware to remove stars (if you'll reveal your secrets)??

First of all I use Select > Color Range > Highlights to select all the bright areas. I then deselect any bright areas I don't want to delete. This should result in the stars being selected (well at least the brighter ones). I then expand the selection enough to cover the glare from most of the stars. Hitting delete brings up a box where you select what will fill the deleted areas and it defaults to Content-Aware. If I understand it correctly the program looks in the area around the areas being deleted and uses that to determine what to put into the deleted areas. This is a new feature in PS5.
