After SWMBO told me i could order the G11, i ordered straight away before she could change her mind :P
I just hope the Gemini 2 will perform as good as the Gemini 1 LVL4.
At Bintel they say i could have it as soon as mid March :D
Just a pity i can't have it at SV camp :(
Will keep you all informed how fast the delivery time is.

The good thing about the new Gemini is that it has a USB port so it can be directly connected to the computer
Also lan is available so i could use bluetooth :D
One EQ6 pro up for sale in March :P

Congratulations, Martin. If your EQ6 images are anything to go by, you're going to be making masterpieces with the G-11.

Just make sure you treat it nicely. : P

OI!!!
RS23 is for old men like you :P

Humayun i alway's think of mounts as user items, but i will treat the G11 the same as my EQ6 :)

Who's EQ6 can take 50Min pics without star elongation???

I notice ATS was selling the G11 cheaper than Bintel (not by much) although not sure if this is the G2 model

is it much more with the HD tripod

I personally don't like the cheap look of the counterwieghts so I'd probably drill out a couple of my EQ6 ones to fit the shaft

Hope it all go's well as I will need feedback as wanting to buy new mount myself this year and I just can't to seem to justify

$8-10k on a mount such as the MX or an AP

:thanx:

My luck is that Bintel is about 32km from me and i can pick up the mount.
From ATS i have to pay a nice bit of postage so it would be the same price in the end.
Also i work about 1km from Bintel, so dont have to pay postage if something is wrong with the mount :)

PS: The ATS model is the one with the HD tripod and Gemini 2.

I had this reply from OPT last week - I was inquiring about the possibility of some Losmandy mounts becoming available any sooner than the new Paramount MX (currenctly said to be due in the 2nd quarter):
"the waiting list for the Losmandy G112 is quite long and knowing the manufacturer, we are not going to get all of our back orders in one shipment. In other words, you stand a better change of getting the paramount before the Titan mount."

I read that as meaning that you won't see any Losmandy mounts this side of about July.

First light was last night and man she tracks fine
I first had to grind one of my stainless steel dovetail's to fit the Losmandy mount.
I had to grind a 45 Degree angle or it didn't fit in :(
Got it to fit half way
Then i had to focus by hand and because i just wanted to see if it guided well i was a bit off focus.
Did a quicky on Omega Centaury and it worked

Today i bought a new flapper disk and a grinding disk to make a proper dovetail.
Man that was a pain in the backside :mad2: because i wanted to do it properly.
My stainless steel is that hard that it wore out the grinding disk quick, but it got the job done :D
Then using the flapper disk, i made everything smooth, and then i spray painted it satin black.

It has a 45 Degree angle in it, but also a groove along both sides so the sharp end of the mount head sits in that groove.
The groove does go downwards at the end so it can slide down, but never fall off the mount even if i want it to :screwy:

Now the autofocus is working again i can do a proper first light for the mount tonight

For everyone who want to use stainless steel for a dove tail i say "DON'T DO IT" unless you don't want any flex :P

i ordered the DC14 dovetail for my c14. i dunno if thats stainless steel or what. Great setup martin. I will be doing planetary imaging and just observing with the c14. What are you using the power the mount martin?

mill
19-03-2011, 02:59 PM
Mark the DC14 dovetail is aluminum.
See photo #4, the power supplie goes into that box and it powers everything.
It has 13.8V , 5V and 8.3V outputs, so i can power the mount the usb hub and my Canon 10D.
The switch-mode is 13.8 Volt and 12 Amps, so plenty of juice :)

Well wouldn't it be just my luck Toll Ipec deliver on a Saturday and guess who was not home when they turned up (you'd think they would call first), so someone will be making a trip to their depot on Monday to pick up their new mount.

Bah humbug

TrevorW
20-03-2011, 10:33 AM
Marty did you run the "Polar Align" wizard or "T-Point".

mill

Mark this is straight out of the box.
The mount comes with precision worms standard these day's.
Standard worm blocks.

If it is not cloudy tonight i will do a pempro with guiding onand report back here.

It is just a pity that pec is not yet implemented in the gemini2.
Else i could have uploaded it to the gemini.

I did a pec replay yesterday and stars stayed very steady while the pec was on and no guiding.

Did a Pempro while guiding and it is just amazing.
I must have an exceptional well adjusted worm block here.
