Ok most sellers organize shipping but has anyone purchased something but arranged to have the item picked up and shipped from the sellers location? If so were there any cheap options?

i think you will find that nearly all couriers will not deal directly with the public - you have to be a business and have an account with them

I've had e-go (http://www.e-go.com.au/home.do) deliver stuff to me. They do door to door but I usually use depot to depot, it's cheaper. Insurance is pretty expensive but it's cheaper than austpost without it. Sent a refractor in a wooden box to melbourne, 20Kgs, for $7.70 depot to depot :D

I think it was the Pack and Send people I asked one day to go to a place, pack up a mount and deliver it to me. The quote was humungous! I didn't find a cheap option so it had to wait until I could get there myself.

Probably best for the buyer to arrange these days.
The poor bloke I sold my TSA to had to wait nearly an extra week becuse a firm that had previously been reliable did a full go-slow on the package.
I won't say his name but 'SORRY' again ******!

I mentioned this in another post. I bought some gear in Adelaide off the for sale section. I arranged my own packing and shipping and had it delivered gratis. Beat that! Pays to be in good with the neighbours especially if they run a shipping company.

e-go is the division of Hunter Express that deals with the general public. I've been dealing with the corporate division of Hunter Express for about a year now and find them to be a great carrier. I spend about $30k a year with them. Much easier to deal with than TNT, who I also ship with. I have negotiated with Hunter Express to obtain their e-go rates for my business - the e-go rates are pretty good for consignments that aren't huge. TNT usually wins out in the price war with big consignments. Hunters are especially efficient at delivering to about 62 major nodes across Australia (including Perth) where they can line haul to depots. I would recommend the e-go service to anyone wanting to ship goods around Australia - Hunter Express is excellent.
