Equipments!

Hi Guys,

I am a new comer to this exciting hobbie. I am thinking of purchasing following equipments to start with.

Scope:

Celestron CPC 800 XLT

Accesories:

1) Celestron ultima barlow
2) Celestron Neximage
3) Celestron Accessory Kit
4) Celestron 93230 8 to 24mm 1.25 Zoom Eyepiece

Above equipments will give me enough to look forward for comming years?. Or do I have to upgrade it soon.

That will be good though you probably will very fast want to deep space objects as well. I recommend a EQ mount instead of the ALT AZ fork and maybe a DSLR ring adapter. If you own a DSLR if not a Canon 550D as well.

I own a Canon 5dMKII and thinking of getting a ring & T adaptor. What's the advantage of EQ mount?.


With those equipments would I be able to observe deep sky objects?

What's your primary requirement??
Do you want to image???
Or do you intend to view??

Do you want full auto finding & tracking so that you do not have to "find" objects manually (GO-TO)
Or are you happy finding things yourself?? (Push-TO)


For Imaging
I personally am not into imaging & so can't advise on what's suitable.


For visual
Push-To - you'd be better to buy as big a Dob as you can afford. For visual, appeture is a must. For the price you'd pay for a CPC800 you'd get a 12" dob with $900 change.

GO-TO there are lots of options. I have both an SCT & Dob GO-TO scopes. I tend to mainly use the Dob because the SCT takes ages to set up & is a smaller appeture.
The Dobs I have are also much easier & quicker to align than my SCT.

For an extra $150 over the CPC800 price you'd get a 14" GO-TO Dob


Both are HUGE appeture advantages over the 8". Please remember that my suggestions are for visual only.

SCT is what you want then.

For visual - no.

For imaging beyond a few seconds - yes. Or a field de-rotator, and I haven't heard of one of those for a CPC800. The wedge would be far cheaper.

Ohh yes.. because its a schmidt things maybe a little dull and magnified but yes. my little 6" newt i often enjoy the brighter "novice" objects orion, lagoon, andromeda etc.. if you get a wedge or a EQ you can start imaging them as enjoy them more. 8" will be fine for that as even 30 seconds of exposure brings them alive a go to EQ will allow for a lot more. you will find your self with a camera attached to your scope 100% of the time :rofl:
