Gotta see that Dark Doodad in Musca again. That fella has eluded me since a SV camp a year or so ago. Just need the 10x50 binos for it!:thumbsup:

I should also get organised for what targets to shoot. Every time I get to camp I don't have anything planed till I'm all aligned and ready to hit the shoot button.

NanoSail-D, provided there are passes. :camera: ;)
Maybe the jet on Z CMa, per ngcles' thread (in someone else's BIG scope! :P )

Thanks Eric, you're like a dog with a bone! ;) But it is a great visual target now, so big and you can see a lot as it flits through the FOV.

Even I will take a long exposure photo of that target! It's easy, any fool (ie. eric) can get an image:- DSLR? - Check; wide angle lens? - Check; on tripod? - Check; pointed vaguely in the right direction? - Check; remote shutter release ready? - Check; batteries? - Che... DAMN - flat!!

I think I will have to start with something big and bright to see if I can remember what to do  Eta Carina I think.

Z CMa might even be worth a try Rob!

Don't tell me Anna has retired and you have got the urge John. Good to see you both coming along. Better have a little sip or two.
I have not even thought about a target yet. I suppose as long as the target isn't me. Remember the 50 caliber finger fellas.:eyepop:

Let's just get on with it! Is it March yet.
I was going to have a go at the Gabriel Mistral Neb, and maybe something in Scorpius later in the evening. Other than that, anyone recommend any decent Galaxies. M83 and 5128 spring to mind, also M104 should be well placed.

Hi all,
me I find Astro camps great to meet and greet!
Not to be picky ;) but most take pictures of the same old stuff. How many pics of Orion can you take! seriously its great to see all the images.
Personally I like to see images of things that visually are very hard to see, there millions of them. and working out what is a good target takes time and investigation.
I throw one up which looks very nice in professional images. The Galactic trio/
NGC- 6769/6970 and NGC 6971 in the constellation of Pavo. Great for us and perfect for Snake Valley.

Now some may have captured these before but there hard in a smallish scope to see. So just putting it out there ;)
See you all soon.
Dave

Also I really like this one NGC 2442
http://www.astrosurf.com/antilhue/ngc_2442_in_volans.htm
We observed this with Tims scope a year ago and i loved it. It has great structure, so would be a nice target for your cameras.
I could go on and on but I wont  love your work people.
WELL :P first of all Jens first target is to get her new (astro toy) :D and my OLD scope, tent essentials, camera, laptop, table, chairs clothes and lots of blankeys my son and the esky in my little car :lol: oh and just to be cheeky i will make sure the hair straightner fits too ;)
If i arrive with all that in my car a certain IIS member said he will bare his butt to the ducks on the lake :rofl::rofl:
Now can she do it :question::question:

I've got a request for imagers - images of DSOs in the LMC other than NGC 2070 eg areas around NGCs 1965, 1763 (the nebula around this area - N11- is the second largest star forming region in the LMC), 1727, 1770, 1968, 2035, 1910 etc.
Pure self interest - I'm after more of your lovely images for my web site
As for visual - I like the idea of gong for Z Canis Major and her jets, Dave's suggestion in another thread of GCs in the LMC. And Arps. So much to see up there...

For Visual, why not try for the dust lane in NGC 3628 and the spiral arms of NGC 2442 and NGC 2997.
The Dark Doodle is a good one, one of the best dark nebs out there. As a bonus, the globular cluster NGC 4372 lies at its southern end. Also a good opportunity to hunt down NGC 1999 in Orion, a remarkable reflection nebula which features a striking T-shaped dark globule that can be picked up in dark skies and moderate apertures.
Also some more obscure/rarely observed emission nebulae to try for include IC 2948-the Running Chicken in Centaurus, NGC 3199 in Carina and Cederblad 122, lying just on the western edge of the coalsack, the Vela SNR/Gum Nebula and IC 2177.

I will be bringing the C14 so planetary imaging is the go in the early hours but before that I will be taking a gander at objects like the eskimo nebula, ghost of Jupiter and some of the more interesting galaxies. More likely I will look for a while and then start yarping on to people I know. More about the fun of the camp rather than anything serious I think.

Nice to do list Sab. Will add those to mine. Shame you're not coming along to help out especially with the Great Snake Valley Pup Hunt.

Here's a throw-together observing guide - just planet times, satellites, comets, meteors etc, no deep sky targets! ;)
