Hi All,
Probably none of you have noticed, but I have been away from the forum for about 6 weeks. Had a nice long holiday and even found a day to get married. Yes after 8 years of de-facto blish we decided we'd better formalise it.... Couple of pics below.
Many thousands of posts of passed since mt last visit, so I'm not going to bother reading them all, but hopefuly I'll be back into it with new posts. It seems this place in humming!
Hope you guys all enjoy Lostock and are surviving the heat. Looks like we have a nice tropical storm heading our way! Hopefully it will be gone by next weekend for NZ stardate.
Cheers for now...

Where did you go for honeymoon?

You're just in time to come over for Lostock! :) Are you heading to SPSP this year?

Thanks gents.
Mike, we had a short honeymoon in Waitomo & Rotorua on our way back home. Planning a trip to Europe in June, so that will be the big one! Not sure about SPSP. I'd be keen, but the finances might not be! We have the 2006 Astrophotography camp the weekend before also.
Hiya Paul, Sneakin' is what I do best! PS 300D is all mod'ed and works great. Have you done yours yet?
Cheers

Not yet. Let me know when I can send it over

Send it over when your ready..... It's not a difficult job, you could probably tackle it yourself. Have you asked David (westsky) if he could do it for you?
One caveat though... The custom-WB when trying to do normal stuff is ok, but it'll never quite be as good again! I have attached a comparison. Note the grass & trees should be green in the custom-WB shot (It's not the Aussie outback!).
Cheers

Congratulations Robby. You look a truly content man (and I might say that your bride has a rather contented look on her face, too!)

Hope you can make it back to Oz some time soon.

Congrats Robby. As a photographer myself, Im always amused where the bridal couple want to have their wedding pics taken. Sitting in haystacks, hanging around in trees, in fields of corn/canola, on dry dusty roads, on carnival rides, with fishing rods etc.Congratulations to you both.

Robby's right Paul the mod is not that hard to do, the glass cutting now thats another matter :-))
If you want to do it let me know and come down for a drive, it will take a couple of hours maybe 3, I can supervise or i can do it for you whichever, no guarantees though :-))

Robby I found the CWB to be somewhat lacking with the 350D so I bought a X-Nite CC1 filter, fits on the camera lens and gives me perfect daytime shots the same as the unmodded camera.
cost me around $105.00US but worth every cent.
The only downside is that if you use different camera lens you may need different size filters unless you use stepup or stepdown rings, both my lens where 58mm so I bought the one size filter.

By the way congrats to you and Kathy.

cheers
David.

heres a daytime shot with the X-nite filter loverly greens :-))

Thanks for that tip David! I'll see if I can hunt one down. Do you still use the custom white balance with the X-Nite CC1 filter?

I found the glass cutting easy... Well I did have a diamond cutter :D
I actually cut it a bit too big  so had to trim out the plastic housing to get it to fit.. Rather that than cutting it too small I guess... :confuse3:

Where did you get your X-Nite filter from David?

Hi Robby, the filter is availible from here http://www.maxmax.com/
the filter looks almost identical in colour to the glass I removed from the 350d
There shipping charge is expensive but I sent an email to Dan the owner and he will ship with USPS if you ask him too.
I don't use a custom white balance at all just the normal camera settings, the focus is alittle harder to get with autofocus, it looks slightly out of focus through the viewfinder but the image focus is fine, I think it's the extra glass from the filter that cause's it.
Manual focus is fine.
I cut my glass larger also then I used a grinding stone to trim it down, worked out ok just a bit more work.

David.

I have sent Maxmax an e-mail requesting USPS. Thanks!

BTW happy birthday Robby.

I might just do that David, thanks. I'll give you a call after Lostock and see if we can organise something. Between you and Robby I should be able to work something out to get it modded. ;)

Hi Paul , have a good time at Lostock, I,m off to Leyburn for 3 nights hopefully to give the 350D a workout under some dark sky at long last.
ring me when you are ready to get your heart rate up and we can pull your expensive camera to bits :-))))))

David.
