Hey I was wondering if you had a monochrome ccd you could still take colour photos. I thought that by changing the colour settings in some photos taken through a blue filter so that the blue light showing through is changed from a grey to blue doing the same for the rest and then stacking would it fail dismally or turn out ok:shrug::question:

yes you can take blue , green & red filter shots -then combine them -usually with some luminance (mono mode) shots

Cool because I thought you could but someone I know said it was impossible. You just saved me over $2000 so thank you

Actually I would say from a couple of tests that your result may look better than a straight colour shots.

Actually now that I think about it that's right because there's no mucking around with colours in the ccd and it also gives you the ability to have a natural colour or maybe an enhanced colour image

The main reason, I think is with glass optic, Doublet or Barlow lenses each colour is out of focus, so you will be compulsed to refocus for each colour, that is what I found with my Jupiter Images. I recorded them in colour and only recently I split the component RGB out and the Blue was massively out of focus. This affects the overall image.
