Hi all
I was asked to be the 'meet a staff member' on my works' internal newsletter, and was asked to answer a few questions for it.
I thought it might be a good idea and a bit of fun to ask those same questions here and get to know each other a bit better.
The questions are:
Hobbies?
Favourite Food?
Favourite Movie and Why?
What is something that your co-workers might not know about you?
Which 3 people would you invite to your perfect dinner party and why?
----
and here are my answers:
Hobbies?
My three main hobbies are Karate, Astronomy and Photography. Although I rarely have time to do any of them as much as I’d like to.
Favourite Food?
I love a good (western) Thai dish – usually Satay Chicken, Chicken and Cashew Nuts, Massaman Beef :)
Favourite Movie & Why?
I love technology and sci-fi movies, like Avatar, Matrix, Star Wars etc with some good Action and War movies thrown in too (eg. Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers (TV Series)).
What is something that your co-workers might not know about you?
• I’m a 1st Dan black belt in Karate and compete in Kumite (sparring) tournaments
• I founded and run the largest and most active astronomy website in the southern hemisphere (http://www.iceinspace.com.au)
• I enjoy reading and learning about World War 1 and World War 2 history
• I’ve taken detailed images of Jupiter and its moons (http://goo.gl/XFIIl), craters on the Moon (http://goo.gl/vSTQl) and more.
• I’m also a bit of a technology nerd and used to play online games.
Which 3 people would you invite to your perfect dinner party and why?
Neil Armstrong, Richard Winters (101st Airborne) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Winters) and Bruce Lee... all for fairly obvious reasons. So many questions!

Sab,
Ooh, flight sims, eh! I've been a flight sim nerd since F-15 Strike Eagle II and F-19 Stealth Fighter back on the 286. I recently bought X-Plane (holy crap!) after deliberating for years, but, have not had the time to get involved. I also discovered VATSIM. I think it's a good thing that I haven't got involved otherwise it'd be the end of my life.
Also, Jennifer Hawkins.

Astronomy, writing and photography.
Favourite Food?
Prawns
Favourite Movie and Why?
Young Frankenstein by Mel Brooks -- the most complete comedy ever.
What is something that your co-workers might not know about you?
Many of my current co-workers and friends wouldn't know that I've prosecuted in Court more than 2000 serious supply drug cases whether by way of committal for trial elsewhere or to finallity in the Local Court and probably over 50,000 individual fraud cases. The largest drug supply matter involved 4.2kg of pure (not street grade) heroin and the largest fraud-type offence (178BA/40/1900) involved $25.4 million worth of property. I once prosecuted George Freeman. I once handled (in court on her first and only appearance) the case of the wife of a then current Govenor General of Australia for shoplifting (and yes it was all kept extremely quiet and out of the media).
Which 3 people would you invite to your perfect dinner party and why?
Galileo: Because I want to speak with the first person ever to look through a telescope at the heavens and vicariously appreciate that experience. He also deserves to be told he was right about so many things (but got some wrong).
Isaac Newton: Because he was a towering genius and I also want to show him (and Galileo) my telescope and explain how we've made a few "special modifications" to improve Newton's design ... (I'd love to see their faces when they look through at a few things)
Fred Watson: Because the other two are going to ask many questions about the advances in Astronomy/Physics over the last 400-odd years that I couldn't answer as well as, and with the level of detail they desereve ... Fred could answer. Plus, Fred's simply a very entertaining and engaging person who would be great fun to hang around with.
Best,

That whole thing is incredible. It basically transforms Australia in FSX to what you see in real life. And those airports, it may aswell be real life!! You can also get free downloads which add hundreds of small airstrips, in photorealistic detail to the Australian landscape. I'm now in the process of selecting components for my FSX-dedicated machine, hopefully will get it built this year. My existing comp is a train wreck, it can barely run FS2004!

We spent one night (when it was cloudy) and fangbanged our way through most of season 2. I've just started watching season 1, up to episode 4.
Most HBO shows are quality. Between all the rampant romping, there seems to be a semblance of a story line. : P

It also occurred to me to invite Angelina Jolie but you wouldn't get any sense out of most males at the table so she's out.

Jen,
I ( and my Mum and sister ) left Holland in late 1986 when Prince was going to do a concert in (I think) Rotterdam. We missed out. Then when we got to Oz, he did a gig in (I think) Sydney shortly after we arrived. My Sister and I were dead set on going to it but failed in the attempt.:(
So never saw him live. My sister has all his albums too ( on cassette tape, vinyl and cd).

Keanu Reeves ( my wife just loves him and would trade me in for him anyday she says)....
Maria Sharapova ( my Youngest Son is Tennis mad and likes her a lot)
Joe Satriani ( my Middle Son loves his Guitar playing )
There would have to be a Penrith Panthers player there as well for my eldest Son, who follows the Panthers and goes to nearly all there matches.

Hi Geoff
A great read & thanks. I served in the RAN in my younger years & previously, during & post was a Gun Collector. I was half decent with a Hand Gun & pretty decent with Rifles. I lived in Northern South Australia and there was any amount of "Game" for the taking & I had a penchant for Rabbit Stew. I have never owned any Hand Guns as they are simply so hard to get a license for here in South Aus. Gun Clubs really is the only way and THE ONLY PLACE they can be used. Silly, because it only makes it hard for the honest people. It is like "LOCKS", they only keep out honest people anyway.
I am impressed with your achievments in Tae Kwon Do and although as a Naval Diver, I had to do Unarmed Combat (fortunately as I got plenty of chance to use it in Malaya) but have seen more than enough action to last me this life time. You got your first Scope heaps before I did, I was around 48 when I got my first 70mm Refractor. Previously, I simply used Bino's or Eye's.
Again, thank you for your CV and you stay well. Clear Skies. Noel:welcome:
