Hi All,

Inspired by Chrisyo's efforts with hand tracking, i was out last night looking to do some visual observing. When i saw Saturn for the first time in my life, i had to take a picture. Well it was video actually.

10" f5 dob, 2x Barlow, 15mm Andrew's plosl, and a new Canon A610 held up to the EP while hand tracking it. I took a few avi's about 30sec at 320x?? res.

Almost every fram seems to be blury so i am guessing i did not focus correctly. Just standard default registax prosessing.

Well i am still inspired to try again. Its alright once you haver worked out how to track the object by hand, left and up, left and up etc etc..

Hi Netwolf

I would have been VERY pleased with your image of Saturn for my first attempt, especially with a push-to Dob. Great effort and excellent result. I bet Galileo (the Italian dude - not the probe) would have given anything to see Saturn that clearly!

Cheers

Dennis

That's great Wolfie! Congrats on your first ever image of Saturn!! Don't stop trying, you will get better & better images as we know by looking at Chrissyo's saturn.

Top stuff!

Thank u all for your generous comments, i am pleased with my first ever photo of a planet after reading your comments. I need to work on my focus and maybe use diffrent settings on camera perhaps higer res and lower fram rate. Looking at my current avi's they are 320x"" at 60fps. I might even try the Neximage i have on loan..

I had two nights after many rany nights, and after seeing all the others saturn i had to have a look. I missed the first clear night, i thing it was better seeing on Friday night. But i was to tired post work, so went for it on Saturday night though i do belive the seeing was not as good. Also i was imaging at around approx 12pm and at this point Saturn was only about 10 degrees above my neighbours house. Not a good spot after a hot day, need to wait till latter when its more to the west and nearer its peak.

Also may go shopping for an afocal adapter, been looking at the Williams Optics ones. It would be easier with both my hands free for tracking. The most excellent feature of the A610 is the tiltable/rotatable screen.

Thanks all for your kind comments. I have the long weekend coming up to try praying for clear skies.

PS: now to dig out those first moon avi's i got a while back with the neximage, have not had time to process them yet. Problem is i took lots of strips but just let the moon slip by instead of trying to track. I think if i chop up the avi's i might be able to do a bit of stacking in small sections of the avi.

David, i too am in talks with FO for the adapter.

There seem to be two sizes Did you get the bigger one or the smaller one?

I am just thinking if i would be better of geting the bigger one. And would the bigger one be able to handle a mindv camcorder as well as my A610.
