Hi all, a quickie from Friday night under a half-ish moon.
Increasing brightness from moon washed out Saturday's attemps.

Orion Nebula in Ha

Canon Astro 40D
Canon 70-200mm f4L IS lens
FL=200mm, f4, iso1600, Avg temp -10ºC. 7x20min subs (140mins total)
Astronomik 12nm Ha EOS clip-in filter

Very good Doug. Very smooth and not much noise for 7 subs - guess the 20 min exposures help.

Seriously, that looks great -- like the panoramic choice of presentation, too.

Would be great if you can add more to it.

One slight criticism; the mid-section of M42 looks like it's had a reverse curve applied to it -- that is to say, it appears to be missing contrast. If you see to that, then, that'll finish off an already great looking image!

Had another 7 fron Sat - but the moon stuffed them up.



Can't miss it eh H!? Had problems processing this. Used 15,30,60, and 120sec masks but it's not as easy to do masks on Ha stuff as it is on RGB images! Know any goodtutorials for Ha stuff?

My friend, I'm yet to take a hydrogen alpha image myself.

Considering the Moon is out, and the forecast is supposedly clear for tonight, I might attempt Eta Carinae in hydrogen alpha on the STL/FSQ.

I've got a 7 nm filter, so, not sure how long my sub-exposures should be. My polar alignment is dead on. I'll try for ten minutes for starters and see how I go.
