Hello Everyone.

Its been so long since I managed to image let alone post anything...

This was the result of a couple of fluke nights of good weather. The first on NYE which saw me abandon the guests and festivities every half hour to run off to the observatory to set up for the next run of lights (focus, move observatory, realign, image, etc).

They were understanding (at least they didn't let on how nuts they think I am...).

The second run was for a few hours on 9th January until thick fog came rolling in soon after I mentioned that clear still nights such as these are often associated with fog...I asked for that one...

So basically i redid Thor's Helmet in case we go and produce another compendium...I'll have one entry at least!.

I attach a coupl eof versions, a slightly darker one and one pushed a bit more after some prompting by cruel friends who knew I was just itchin to post it!

So i pushed the lum a bit on the second one which reveals the faint nebula a bit more.

Look forward to your comments and preference (the pushed one is growing on me).

Details are attached to the pics but basically:
C14 at F/11 on a nicely performing G11 with a new single block worm (what a difference!!!).

STL 11000M.

I did 15 min Lums at 1x1 and 7.5 min RGBs at 2x2.

Processed as LLRGB.

I think better more experienced hands would get better outcomes from the data available but i pretty much used the best of my processessing skills here and forced myself not to push any layer adjustment too much aiming for subtle yet noticeable improvements along the way.

Until, of course, cruel friends made me push it some more! (seriously though i appreciate the input guys).

I'm happy that its an improvement on my previous efforts at Thor's Helmet also attached for a giggle.

Thanks for looking

Yes, yes, yes! The pushing was warranted -- see!

That is absolutely fantastic my friend!

Now, let's add three or four more times the hours on that and see what you end up with?

I've got a big grin on my face at the moment. : D

Frank, Number 1 for me mate, I think it's amazing.

As for pushing the data, we'll it comes down to personal taste and needing lots of data.

Although I think your incredibly game sneaking out to the observertry on NYE, I love the result.

Keep having fun.

Nice job Frank, I think I like the pushed version, always good to go deep .

Some great colours there too, compared to your previous attempt.

I'm with Desler. No.1 is the duck's guts.
Great image Frank. Never tire of seeing this, it's such a fascinating object.

I'm going for no 1 as well, it's smooth, nice....really nice detail in the blue loops, the deeper one has just gone a bit gritty, and seems to me to have lost some of the subtle details... Plus it's upside down

The earliest one you did.... Is the data good enough to add to the pile or have the darks changed too much ( worth a try for the fun of it )

Well done. You've given me renewed confidence in using a G11 on a C14.

Thanks Clive, Dave, Paul and Peter.

incidentally, the upside down one (#3) is the old one while the other two are the recent process jobs with the first (#1) being the one I pushed the most.

Peter, the C14 onthe G11 works, just make sure you have your balancing done right, get maxxon motors and probably the new single block worm

Im off for 4 days will catch you all again soon

cheers

Nice job overall Frank. This is one of the toughest objects I have imaged, so I know exactly what is going on here. Even with the diameter you are working with this objects needs lots of integration time so that you can really stretch the image. I think I ended up doing 22 hours of integration time and that allowed me to really stretch the data and bring out some of the detail you will have in the background of your image.

I would suggest doing more integration time in the coming months, it will mean a fantastic image later down the track. Good image as is though.

I like number 1. Very nice. Its good to see the venerable C14 strutting its stuff.

Also this is quite bright in O111. So if you have an O111 filter try to get some of that.

Greg.

Thanks Paul, Greg.

I don't have an O111 yet...

I'll try to add some frames to it

its a tough target alright but worth it!

thanks again
