I live at Auchenflower and work at Milton. Both have flood warnings at the moment. Roads all around us are choked up with cars and rising water. Glad we took Hayden (8 month old baby) to those swimming lessons (http://troypiggo.blogspot.com/2010/12/underwater-world.html), he might just need them...

I've just heard we have 5-5.5M of water coming down the Burnett river headed for Bundy.
Stay safe Troy & family.

Troy I hope you guys are all okay through all of this. Yourselves, friends and family.
My family sends our bestest crossed fingers and thoughts to you all. And all affected by this avid precipitation.
Hopefully a cretaceous period like inland sea does not remain after it stops raining.
Stay safe, don't take any risks.

Surpriseing how many Qld ers are scampering off down the hwy south today loaded up with all the camping gear . . ?
the pacific hwy has just closed at tyndale ( diverting at ballina) and the water coming down the Clarence isn't going make life a joy over the coming days.

It's not looking too good is it Troy! According to the records our land was partially inundated (but not in the house) back in '74 - and I've just heard that they are now predicting that this one will go higher than '74!
I'm starting to think seriously about moving some stuff upstairs...
Hope everyone in SE Qld gets through it OK.
Cheers,
Stephen

We just went for our usual run along the river at St Lucia and Toowong and there are quite a few people that look like they're packing up and moving out. Fortunately, we're up high, although our back yard is a waterway corridor. I hope all the other Qld IISers are OK...

My daughter & I just did the same thing. We live up Sherwood Rd at the top of the hill. :)
As we were walking back home after viewing the river I heard on the radio that the John Oxley floating restaurant had just broken it's moorings & was floating down the river.:eyepop:
If this is correct then I'm guessing it'll get stuck under one of the bridges.:(

Just spoke to a mate at BCC. Flood will def be higher than the '74 flood level in Brisbane on Thursday if not before. Take care everyone. I'm off to move stuff upstairs coz I think I'm definitely going under in the next couple of days. Wife's family has just been ordered to evacuate by the emergency services.

They changed the name a while back... to the Drift Cafe...
Good luck, Troy! I hope they're overestimating the flood levels.

I came here last year from UK to Cleveland, Brisbane - What is happening with this crazy weather no one told me about La Nina!!!
John.
This is just terrible, one has to wonder where the water comes from, my thoughts are with all you good people in those devastated areas, please keep safe.

I feel so powerless to help :( I live in Brisbane but not likely to be affected by the flood waters unless the Oxley Creek overflows and rises 20 metres or more. My boyfriend is preparing for the worst and I can't do a damn thing to help :(. That is the most frustrating part about it! I hope everyone is taking care of themselves, please stay safe and if you need any help at all, don't hesitate to ask!

Good onya Shelley, I'll second that, if any one needs help just ask. I'm pretty safe where I am, I'm sure I can find room to store stuff or if worse comes, help people with a roof over their heads for a while, just flick me a PM and something will be worked out.

Oh BTW this is Morayfield road looking from Caboolture to Morayfield past Centenary Lakes at lunch today. My house is behind the tree line on the left and back one street from the river.

Wondered how bimbos were doing,I knew Stephen and Troy lived near Toowong,Hope you guys got all your gear to higher ground.
last night we had 5 inches of rain and nasty thunder, could not sleep, just worried the house might slip away-so much water.
Our friend near Gatton has lost her house, but is thankful to be alive, she said it was that bad.
One tiny piece of good news,I saved the observatory and contents,Last night I thought it was a goner, but to my relief no water had got in.I had to shovel a drain deeper at 12 pm in pouring rain, and it channelled water away.
regards to all in Brisbane.

make sure you have torches on hand - when they turn your power off you will need them tonight. Stay safe everyone who is affected and who may not be at their own home tonight. I hope that those who can help do

Came with the family down to Sydney on Jan 1 for a 2 week break and to get away from the rain - looks like we timed it well. Bit worried that our car may be on the bottom of Moreton Bay when we get back to Bris Airport.
Hope everyone up there stays safe. Mark (batema) was supposed to be caravaning beside the Clarence at Yamba this week, I hope that he has pulled up stumps and moved to higher ground.

It's very surreal here in Brisbane at the moment. I'm fine as I live at Robertson which is on a ridge, however numerous roads are cut and I can't get to work. I have friends whose houses will go under and yet they seemed so high above the river. So very, very sad.
Mario
PS Has anyone heard from Suzy? She comes up as being 4kms from me and if that's to the west then she'd be in the flooded areas...

Have checked reports for my place and the water will need to get over 7.6m to get in. We are just hoping it's not going to 1893 levels where it was 8m. Will be spending the next 2 nights with family elsewhere, mostly to ensure we don't lose power and it's not worth the risk with a 7 month old.
Really feel for you Troy, is there anywhere you can go?

It's only the pontoon bit, the restaurant itself is still moored and slowly submerging.
A few updates and info:
Glad to report that evac centres are now allowing animals in cages/on leashes - a bit of sanity in the mayhem.
It is going to get a lot worse I'm afraid, there is a big mass of rain coming from the west now - most of this recent stuff was driven in off the coast.
See today's post at my blog (http://commentsbyodille.wordpress.com/2011/01/11/the-weather-situation/) for captures from BoM radar and charts as at 6.45 am
The best place to keep up to date is the Qld Police Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/QueenslandPolice) page
There is a NSW one (http://www.facebook.com/nswpoliceforce) as well but it is not as comprehansive, the Qld Police are doing a streling job on keeping folk updated
NSW SES (http://www.ses.nsw.gov.au/) site is quite good (but it fell over from all the traffic earlier today) - As the Clarence River continues to rise at Ulmarra, Brushgove and Cowper the SES have issued an Evacuation Warning (http://www.ses.nsw.gov.au/events/18172.html) for Ulmarra and communities downstream at 0600 on Wednesday, 12 January 2011
ABC Local Radio (http://www.abc.net.au/local/) - both ordinary radio and the internet pages have the latest too
From ABC News site:
(this morning) - full story here (http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2011/01/12/3110921.htm)
"The death toll from south-east Queensland's flood crisis has risen to 10, as Brisbane and Ipswich prepare for unprecedented flooding over the next two days.
Heavy rain, releases from the giant Wivenhoe Dam and high tides are set to combine to cause major flood peaks in the cities.
The number of missing people has been revised upwards to 78, and there are serious concerns for 18 of those people.
The weather bureau has lifted a severe weather warning for the region but the bureau's Brett Harrison says the general flood threat remains the same."
STAY SAFE - DO NOT GO IN FLOODWATERS!
Some things to have on hand:
* eskies
* torches (already mentioned) and spare batteries
* gas camping lanterns/cookstoves if you have them
* candles & matches
* battery or wind up radio - if you have one plug it in to get charged
* keep mobile phones and laptops on charge - at least you'll then have a bit of juice in them if the mains go off
* make ice blocks in the freezer - you can just freeze water in double plastic bags with the necks tied in a know - make the upright to start - once they are frozen you can squash them in anywhere - or if you have unfrozen freezer bricks freeze them NOW
* gumboots or old shoes you can get wet in case you have to go out in the yard in water - don't go barefoot or in thongs as things can wash down in the water, you don't want to cut your feet and floodwaters are often dirty
* if you have animals make sure leashes/cages are ready for them and easy to hand - we keep ours in the foyer or garage - and some food and water and litter for the animals.
* put all your precious papers in a plastic lunchbox or similar - they are fairly waterproof usually if they have a good seal
* medications - out a few days worth together in a lunchbox as well
* a couple of changes of clothes and some towels tied up in plastic bags is a good idea of there is a chance you will have to evacuate - nothing worse than being wet
Feel free to add to this list, it's by no means complete, came off the top of my head

Thanks for the update.
At Auchenflower here there are houses at the end of my street under water. Fortunately for us we're higher than that area, and hopefully by more than what they're telling us it will rise to. Worst case at the moment is that our garage underneath our living areas might go under. The footy field that our units back onto (Wests Rugby) is half under and about to go fully under. Just got back from shops to get some last minute supplies. No bread, milk or anything in any of the shops around here. We had already stocked up on that the other day. Can't believe people have left it til now to get that sort of stuff. We've filled everything capable of holding drinking water. Candles and torches ready. Just don't know how bad it's going to get - not just the water, but power outages, water supply?

I spent some time in the evac centre in town yesterday.
There was never any question about not allowing pets.
One couple had their 2 dogs, a very young puppy as well as 2 pet chooks. What are you supposed to do? Leave them there to drown?
