Unmodified DSLR and filters

Hello, I would like to get advice about using filters with unmod Canon 1000D. I would like to improve my nebula shots and have looked through previous threads but still am not sure if purchase of UHC would be the first filter to get (either clip on or 1.25" in filter wheel) I have a H alpha filter I haven't used on the DSLR yet but I believe it probably won't work particularly well on an unmodded ? is this right?
What about O III filters and ummodded DSLRS?
I have 80/100mm refractors and one 8" SCT plus a mono CCD.

As far as Ha, I think you are right, would need to mod the camera with a clear or special filter.

forget the Ha Graham. Unless its modded you just wont get reasonable response times. The standard Canon UV/IR filter cuts in way before the Ha band.

Graham. I am using an Astronomik CLS-CCD filter on an unmodded 1000D. Astronomik claim that its performance is very good on both modded and unmodded cameras in suburban light areas/moon glow etc. Have a look at the Astronomik site and read up on the technical specs. Having said that, the prime purpose for buying the CLS-CCD was to take colour shots.

Here is an example - keep in mind the newbie short comimgs.

RCheshire-excellent image , can you give me an idea of the details of that shot with the CLS-CCD filter, i.e exposures, stack size, and if filter was in image train in filter wheel or a clip filter?

You're too kind Graham.

Clip-in filter. Stack of 35 frames, exposures ranging from 3 - 6 mins (about 2:40, unguided) under an outskirt suburban sky - 80mm apo f/6 iso800. I can see M8 with the naked eye with difficulty under my sky.
