Nothing special - just a single 15min exposure of the Horse

My first Horse shot :) We had a few clear nights down in Ballarat whilst visiting family. No processing, straight from the Nikon D40, 15mins, ISO 400, Tak Sky90, reducer, NEQ6-Pro.

I'm working with IIS space members to bring my processing skills up to scratch (p.s. thanks for the vids Louie, and your patience Brendan!) Will report back with a stacked image later...

Your focus seems a little soft but other than that it's very well done for 1x15min exposures. :thumbsup:

Thanks for the feedback Marc. I am finding it difficult to focus the Tak. Small changes in/out of focus make a massive difference. I don't know the technical terms, but I seem to notice 'purple' halos around the stars when too far in-focus, and white 'blown-out' stars when too far out-focus.

I'm not using any focusing programs, just naked eye on the SLR preview screen - zoomed in.

Focus on the preview screen is difficult - I do the same at 10x.

Red halos in one direction and blue in the other. I notice that the star takes on an elliptical shape so I aim to keep it as round as possible. Pretty obvious on the red side, but more difficult on the blue.

Most people seem to be using a Bahtinov mask.

I quite like the no spike image through the Tak....I was going to suggest the method I use which is to focus on say Sirius, but then again without the diffraction spikes from the secondary holders, not much joy...

A good effort for a quick and dirty capture, will be interested to see the stacking results.
