The clouds have done it to me again :mad2::mad2::mad2: - half way through a project and the stars go out!! I managed 3 hours Lum and 3 hours Ha before the clouds set in (for the last week) ... but I thought I may as well post because even in B&W it's still an impressive field! Very little processing here, no sharpening or noise control applied, just a curve or two and 33% Lum blended into Ha (what can I say ... I LIKE the stars!!).
I know it's "only" a Tarantula shot, but since it was my first ever image back in 2007 I thought it would be nice to revisit it and apply what I've learned so far. This time around I'm gathering much more data plus Ha. My intention with this image when finished is to smack the viewer in the face with colour and detail ... so far it's looking good :D

Great shot Marcus.
You've got your tracking working great, beautiful round stars.
There's nothing like the native focal length of the scope eh?
Good one.
Greg.

Cracker of a start, lots of faint detail and not blown out at all in the core area, this will reveal just how far you've come in the few years, look forward to the finished item

I would be definitely happy with that Marcus

Thanks Greg! Yeah - sick of fiddling around trying to flatten my extender 1.6x images for now. The native FL is very clean and flat
Cheers Marc. It really is full of interesting detail and neb and is one of the few objects that I like to see in B&W.
Thanks Clive - my 10 min Lum and 30 min Ha subs were just short of burning out the core so no need for any short exposures. Look forward to finishing it, if only the clouds would cut us some slack!!! Looks like it will be next month though! :mad2:
Cheers Steve.
Thanks Mike.
Thanks Martin.
Thanks JJ. I'll be happier when it's full of whispy colour goodness though, but it does come up a treat in mono for sure.

 Beautiful target, beautifully framed and processed, great details. Somehow even the fact that is in B&W adds some charm to the result. I definitely like it!

I agree Marco, I like B&W images too...I suspect left over from my extensive experience as a young man with B&W film. The medium was my whole life back then (mid 80's) so images like this one by Marcus just blow me away, the detail and dynamic range are Worlds apart though in comparison to those days.

Hehehe ... BAM ... POW .... THWACK!!!
Hmmmm ... there's an idea :) Thanks David!
Thanks Carl - quite happy with the detail - kinda looks like he's hanging in a web too!
Thanks a lot Marco - much appreciated! I confess I'm not really a huge fan of B&W but this subject is very appealing in mono because of it's extent, complex detail and the subtlety of it's fainter extremities.
Onya Mike - thanks! Used to process my own Tri-X film in the 70s (pushed of course) but never really achieved any decent results. Thank goodness for todays technologies!!!
