I didn't take my tripod, so this was salvaged from a few shots taken leaning against the balcony railing of our unit.

Outstanding image!,really looks fantastic.Brilliant work.and no tripod either.

Never really had the chance to take photos of firecrackers,what settings did you use.I recently got a 10-22 widefield lens,I am hopping to have a chance to use it for firework images one year.

Thanks Chris. They were shot with my nifty fifty (EF50mm f/1.8 II). I tried various f stops (8-22) and times
(1.6 to 4dsecs), but it came down to luck as to how much movement there was. A few of the long exposures have night car light trails in them, but there's too many distracting lit up signs alas. You need a bit of time to catch the trails of course. I was surprised how many were half decent for a "railing tripod".

This particular shot was f/22 for 1.6 secs, ISO 100

I'm just a guy with a camera who doesn't afraid of anything.

Normally, you'd be crucified for the shallow depth of field leading to the out of focus trees. But, in this composition it works really well. It adds not just depth, but distance, thereby evoking a sense of something great happening on the other side.

Imagine you're a lost and weary traveller who happens across that scene. How bouyant would your spirit be? : )
