Eta Carina 5D and ED80

I managed to set the scope up tonight after a long wait for the clouds to clear, and for the arrival of my 2" camera adapter from scopestuff.

I got a rough polar alignment and hooked the new Canon to the Orion with just a slight bit of anticipation:P

I got a 14 second shot of Orion, and a 33 second shot of Eta.

To say i am happy with the camera is an understatement, it is awsome, i will hopefully get to a dark site this weekend, and take more time getting accurate polar alignment, i think the results will be just what i had hoped to get from this camera.

Both pics shot in raw mode, auto white balance, ISO 1600
prime focus.

yes, i am fooling no-one trying to get the toucam with long exposure thru a 40mm eyepiece on a 10" motorized dob to get anywhere near this!!!

i may be fine on certain sized clusters of maybe even planetary nebula, but to get these results, i know i must get a ED80 for lovely widefields!!!

:)Thanks for the nice comments, i was itching to get this camera into the back of the ED80.

I re-sized and cropped both pics to fit the site, here is eta full frame uncropped, it is more detail than i could get with three times as long an exposure with the 350d, in just 30 seconds.

I have a lot to learn about the settings and adjustments with this camera, but it has shown its potential with a couple of shots;)

Hi Tidalphase, you should consider a focal reducer flattener for the 80ED I have put up a thread in ATM&DIY showing what can be done with a binocular objective. A commercial one would perform even better.
Once you see how this camera performs it can almost justify it's cost.

Do you know where i can get some daylight filters in various sizes in Australia? I have the EF 50mm f/1.4 And i plan to get the 17-40mm lens and would love to get this camera out and about for some scenery and sunset shots.

I had a play with neat image and m$oft digital image pro and adjusted levels, brightness, contrast etc.

The only source I know for daylight filters is Hutech itself here bottom of page.

Work out which one 58,67 or 77mm and just get step up/down rings to fit any of your lenses. Here

I am going to get the 77mm.
You can meanwhile fix up the colour balance in Photoshop.
