how to fix it ? view from finder scope different from eyepiece

Hi All,

I am a newbie and just borrowed a telescope from a friend last nite...and took me a while to get a clear view of the moon. And there seems to be a problem with the telescope.

When I centered the moon in the finder scope, what I saw in the telescope was the clouds around the moon. I adjusted the telescope with those knobs (sorry don't know the name) and all of a sudden the moon showed in the eyepiece taking up the whole screen. It was wonderful to figure out by myself.

I don't think the telescope is working properly...If there is anyone can tell me how to fix the problem that would be great.

Could just be that the finder scope and telescope aren't properly alligned
Set the telescope up and look at a distant tower or some such fixed object, when you have this centrered and focussed then check the finder. Should be about three little adjusting knobs or screws in the finder support braket, use these to centre the object in the finder. This should then have scope and finder alligned and object should appear in both.

I will try later during the day and fix it for good....
I could have accidently moved the finder scope not knowing what I was doing...and the telescope is a bit heavy for my tiny frame..

looking forward to fixing it and watching Jupiter later...should be loads of fun...

Finder scopes are never fixed for good. They need regular tweaking...unless you have a red dot finder on a refractor.
