Hi everyone
Here's my reprocess of M51. Still not perfect but I think it's an improvement on the original. This time I took more care to avoid clipping some of the colour channels. I think I'll stick to processing my own data from now on.
Cheers

Nice image Steve! You brought out a lot of the faint detail in the companion as well as a couple of background galaxies - well done!

That is a professional image with great fine detail especially in the core and dust can even be seen in the interacting star mist.
John.

Thanks John. I just hope that I did some degree of justice to the original data which of course is not mine.
Thanks David

Gaud, thats very good indeed. Wasnt it low in the S/H?, best ive seen from down under (assuming it was taken in the S/H)

Thanks Fred. Definitely not taken from down here but from the Arizona desert by Jon Christensen. We did a data swap. I got M51 and he got the Tarantula which will presumably appear on his web site in due course.
Thanks Doug. I should have taken more care the first time.

Hi Steve
I could not really compare the 2 versions because I think you must have just replaced the image on your site?
Anyway, I think the detail is good, but fundamentally, galaxy cores are not cyan in colour and I believe this was common to both images.
Are you able to fix this?
cheers

Thanks Tom
Martin,
I didn't leave the other image up there because I thought it was rubbish. Other comments would seem to indicate that I did better the second time round anyway. You are quite right in that I appear to have a problem with Cyan. I've just done another tweak which hopefully improves the image but I'm reluctant to go any further as this is after all not my data and I would rather just get on with something else.
Cheers
Steve
