NGC5908 has been interesting to me as I noticed that the halo had interesting structures in it. At 140 million light-years away it is a bit small on the chip but what I found was that it may have similar structures as NGC1055 (http://www.imagingdeepsky.com/Galaxies/NGC1055/NGC1055.htm)

With NGC5905 it makes an interesting but subtle pair of galaxies with the normal salt and pepper of faint fuzzies from the longer exposure times.

This is my last image to post for the year and wanted to say thanks for all the commments, suggestions, and encouragement this last year.

Kindest Regards,

Another fabulous image. I love these long focal length 20 inch RCOS galaxy images, they are fantastic.

Yes another cool shot from you Ken. Love the contrasting shapes of these two galaxies and the starburst structure in the edge-on galaxy looks beautiful, nice work.

Thanks Mike,

The structures you see in the edge halo are most likely star streams. According to Dr. David Delgado recent computer simulations predict these structures to be remnants from a satellite galaxy's decaying orbit. It pierces the galaxy's surrounding halos of observable material and dark matter and become intra-halo stellar streams.

Very nice Ken. I wonder if there is life there looking back this way? These sort of images put the island universe concept into perspective. Perhaps there is life looking from one of those galaxies and viewing the nearest galaxy to them and wondering the same things we do.

Very philosophical, Paul! Something I wonder about, too!

Another great image Ken.:eyepop:

That is a gorgeous Spiral Galaxy, Ken.
And nicely captured, processed and displayed.
Thank you.

Very nice image Kem Great detail in these two little galaxies. I wish I could even see the moon at the moment.

Beautiful shot Ken, thanks for sharing. The barred spiral is also very elegant!
