Scotland in the winter time.

My mum has recently taken ill so I've come home to scotland for a few weeks to help out, I managed to sneek out the other morning and dive up the the local mountains about thirty mins outside glasgow. Couldn't believe my luck when the fog rolled in.
At the moment the sun never gets above ten degrees so the place is pretty my in a state of sunrise or sunset and makes for really good lighting.

My saturation in these shots is a bit overkill but I like the affect on the mood. My composition needs a lot of work but I'm getting better. Practice makes perfect right.

Have to say that I'm loving the full frame on my new 5D MKII the depth of field is amazing.

S'funny, I have spent a lot of time in Scotland and I have some great memories and photos of it.
The lasting memory is of absolutely amazing still water while on the ferry to Skye.
The Edinburgh Tattoo,
Ice Skating in Kirkaldy,
Sailing on The Firth of Forth off Edinburgh
Climbing Schehalion in midwinter
Eating one of the Queen's salmon (poached then poached on a camp fire)
Shooting at Knock Hill ( Royal Navy Training)
Watching Salmon leap in a snowmelt flooded river

I have been in Scotland in summer (1976). The temperature (80 deg F +) was so hot I had near to heat exhaustion out on the golf course at Greenock.

I love Scotland played golf at St Andrews, Troon, Gleneagles as well as my home course at Lochwinnoch. Saw the Edinbourgh Tatoo, Went to a garden party at Holyrood Palace.

Well done, Sandy. The 5D Mark II is just the ticket for landscapes.

Also, no need to apologise for saturation (as long as it's not HDR saturation defects) -- it helps to make the images stand out.

Composition could be better, but, you've got a pretty good head start, I reckon.

The desolate, cold fields and intriguing rock formations of Scotland are definitely high on my list of places to vist! I think it's much like New Zealand, a fantasyland.

Hope your mum recovers soon.

I find that I rush my shots, I need to learn to slow down and take my time and think about the composition a bit more. In the case with these photos I had to be quick as these were country roads and in order to get the shots I had to block the road with my car. As it turned out I didn't need to be quick as no cars ever came, it's the country, there are no cars, doh!.

It comes down to experience, and still have my L plates on. I'm going to do a course when i get back to Sydney. For one thing I need to learn how to work the camera, I just fumble around pressing buttons a turning things cross my fingers and hope for the best.

Would you mind explaining what you meant by "as long as it's not HDR saturation defects" wht does HDR mean.

Shots 18 and 20 are just magnificent.

18 appears spooky and from a bygone era, as if a horse and carriage might approach carrying Sherlock Holmes on some important business.

20 is just a lovely panorama of the snow covered land and wonderful sky. Nice part of the planet!

The lighting and colors are amazing. I feel a chill when looking at those shots. Man, the cold is definitely something I don't miss. Spent too much time in it. Took enough for one lifetime already ;) Gorgeous shots! :thumbsup:
