For what it's worth, I had a tinkle with some other data from 2009 Astrofest on the weekend. This time M8 Lagoon and M20 Trifid Nebulae. Just to practise processing more than anything else.

I'm not really happy with the framing of the pair. Next time I'll just focus on one of them, rather than trying to cram both in the same frame. Just doesn't look like I had intended. At the time I was experimenting with field flatteners, before I got the WO FFIV, and the stars are a little funky.

Certainly a lot more colourful this time around. :) I included my original processing attempt for comparison. I flipped the repro for some reason.

A marked improvement Troy. Should be happy with that. I would be anyway when comparing your previous attempt. The data has filled out nicely whereas the previous image doesn't look stretched enough. Overall the scene appears a little soft but I doubt its processing related, more the data acquisition exercise. Wont be long before its back in the sky for another attempt. Hope to see you give it another try.

Yes a big improvement. Well done.

Thanks guys. I agree about it looking a little soft, and I suspect it probably was the field flatteners I was experimenting with. The starless version looks better, although the framing is still not my favourite.

Nice going Troy. Your astro-processing looks to have come along in leaps and bounds for sure.

Its not always very easy getting the right framing in the pitch black out there when you're just trying to figure out how to get your gear working properly. It still doesn't take away from the fact its a great image.
