Hi all,

This is my first post here. Firstly, let me apologise to all in Brisbane (and elsewhere) for the weeks of cloudy/rainy weather because I got a Sky Watcher 12" Auto Dobsonian on the 24/11 and it has been cloudy ever since!

That said, I have been able to pick gaps between clouds on a handful of occasions, even if it is during the day!

Here is a shot of Jupiter on the afternoon of 9th December at 4:38pm GMT+10, taken with the 12" and a Canon EOS 550D using the cropped video mode.

Cheers,

Tom

Not too bad for a first?
I hope you don't mind me adjusting the levels in CS3

Thanks Clayton, no worries. I've edited my original post to include larger image size. Is it my imagination or can I see a moon on the upper left limb?

Here's a screenshot from Stellarium for the same time.

And here's an image from later that evening in very poor seeing. Canon EOS 550D with two 1.4x teleconverters, video crop mode, prime focus through a Sky Watcher 12" Dobsonian. Stacked in Registax.

I think if you look at the image that I adjusted you can see two moons. One upper left (Ganymede) and one lower right a bit further out (Io) (similar to your stellarium image but rotated a bit anticlockwise) :)
Also at about 10 O'Clock the GRS is just starting to disappear from view
