I got my RDF today yay!
but....
calibrating it... um. I don't get this. It has allen key sockets for edjusting, but only left and right work (and barely at that).
It's a GSO 4 dot thing. At the moment, vertically it's way off. So, all you experienced people, is there anything I can do about this?

Its probably too tightly assembled.. try to force the movement (but gently..) with hand. Normally the springs should provide the force necessary for the mechanism (very simple, btw) to move.

Doesn't really seem to want to budge :(
I've run out of light and stars to continue calibrating now. I'm amazed how far off it was (and still is).

Then maybe you have a problem with it's mount..
The mechanism of RDF is quite limited, 5 degrees maximum.. it is only for fine adjustment.

interesting. I wonder why its so far out then. Or, maybe I just don't know how to use it properly. It's not like it came with detailed instructions. It assumes you're using it on a gun!

Try to tilt it's stand (mount) by inserting something between surface on which it is mounted.

Maybe its too high because its built for a gun and the target of the scope is lower?
I don't think anything will fit under the mount that could make it move as far as it needs to go.

You need to have a read of my comments on both pages in this thread:

I had the same issues. You need to make sure you loosen both locking bolts before turning the adjusting the bolts. The locking bolt for vertical adjustment is on the left side and uses the smaller of the 2 allen keys that comes with the finder.

Bingo! thanks Sam!
I wondered what the small allen key was for. I thought the locking bolt was a different one to the actual one, because I thought it was on the right side not the left.

Finally a clear night!
All calibrated, working great, now I just have to get rid of the mozzies...
