Hi Everyone

I've been searching the net for info on Quarks - the building blocks of protons and neutrons. At the present stage their are about 6 different flavours up, down, top, bottom, charm and strange; each have a different mass and electron charge, and a proton/neutron consisting of 3 out of the 6 types. However apparently their are many different flavours of quarks. Does anyone know of any sites or research programs currently working of Quark Theory where I could find more information about this?
Cheers.

Hi Vourn,

The six types of quarks, ie Up, Down, Strange, Charmed, Top and Bottom are the six "flavours" and are defined in what is known in The Standard Model.

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the links they are very helpful. A friend of mine mentioned reading an article on the net about quarks, which outlined that there were more than 6 different types. They can't find the article but I thought someone else may have read it.
Cheers

I've also read articles suggesting that there could be more. Pure theory though and I don't know how it all stacks up. Certainly the Standard Model only has the three generations for all fundamental particles. I'm a firm believer that as an amateur astronomer, I'll read these atricles with interest, but it's safr to stick to what is currently accepted physics until it's proven otherwise.

Wikipedia also has a good description of quarks and can be found here:
