There seems to be alot of flood warnings about in a number of states. Just wondering how the IIS community is faring with it all. Anyone affected?

No not affected this time. The creek about 100m away flooded and the Bungil got to 6.7m and did affect some people but nothing major.

Council are warning residents to prepare for flooding when the wet gets into full swing as the ground out here is so water logged. We have concrete blocks on standby for the washing machine dryer and our motorbikes just in case.

Not directly... my family is in Canberra ATM so they may have some adventures trying to get home tomorrow, but not problems here.

But then again, as I live only a few k's from the top of the great divide, if I had a flooding problem the rest of you are in big trouble! Just one of the few advantages of living here...

Well Mt Beauty and the entire Kiewa Valley copped it again. 150+mm of rain here and 192mm at Falls creek yesterday has flooded the entire valley again. This is episode No3 since the first weekend in September.
I just got home from 2 days work in hot and steamy Bella Vista to find the water had been running down the side of my house so deep it had come in through the condensation holes along the bottom of the window frames. Not much damage but we were very lucky. The local hospital and medical centre were flooded. Water water everywhere.

Barry's down at my place (Omaroo) just outside of Cooma this weekend. Should be interesting - the Murrumbidgee flows right through the property. I hope he gets some photos.

Does that mean photos of stars or the river? At least he can shoot the river even if it's pouring. Any waterfalls to try and challenge H's pics?

Bad luck Doug, just a valley away in Bright we got only 58mm for the day (funny how you can say 'only' after so much rain recently  ). Myrtleford copped it much worse - flooding, roads cut etc. I've been away working in the Murray Valley - lots of water around, Loddon in flood, Murray River running a banker, think I got out just in time.

Cheers -

It was a full on day on Thursday for me with the floods at Queanbeyan.

My RFS pager went off at 6.30 and we were in the middle of it by 7.00.
The Queanbeyan catchment area received almost a 100mm in 3 hours and as the ground was already saturated it just ran straight into the river.

Our Cat7 was one of the last truck to cross the main bridge before it was closed for the rest of the day. Our first job was to make sand bags, between 12 of us we managed to fill 800 bags before being relieved by fresh crews.

Next job was to assist in delivering Meals on Wheels as a lot of their volunteers where on the wrong side of the river, there was certainly a few surprised faces when a fire truck pulled up in the driveway to deliver their meals. Then it was off to check the flooded streets to assist anyone in difficulties, thankfully there wern't any.

Finally it was onto crowd and traffic control until our shift finished.

A big thanks also to the young ladies at the hair dressing salon who made us cappucinno's after we got caught in a sudden downpour, it was very appreciated.

Cheers

Yeah, I popped down for the day and caught the whole event. Waded all around town in the muck, then went out to Googong dam, the source of the flow. http://barryarmsteadphotography.webs.com/expeditionjournal.htm
